About Us

The foundation stone of Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi, commonly called IGRUA, was laid by the then Hon'ble Prime Minister of India,    Late Capt Rajiv Gandhi    on 07 Nov 1985.

The Governing Council

The Akademi functions under the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), Govt. of India (GOI) through its Governing Council (GC). Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi (IGRUA) located at Fursatganj District  Raebareli Uttar Pradesh, is an autonomous body under the control of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The Governing Council is the  supreme body of the organization and the Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation is its chairman and members are:

The Akademi is headed by a Director who is assisted by Departmental heads of Operations, Services, Finance and Human Relations.

IGRUA has entered into a Management Contract with Global Aviation Giant - Canadian Aviation Electronics, Canada to improve IGRUA's standard to world class.
 
The foreign nationals from Afghanistan, Royal Nepal Airlines, Mauritius, Zambia and Seachelleous have also undergone Pilot Training at IGRUA.
Currently, ten Afghan Nationals are undergoing pilot training.
 
The Refresher courses for all Chief Flying Instructors /Pilot Instructor Incharge of flying clubs are conducted regularly.
 
The Pilot training to candidates of Indian Airlines, Border Security Force (BSF), Coast Guard candidates, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy is also provided by IGRUA as and when required.
 
Candidates intake is planned in such a way that IGRUA could be able to pass out over 100 candidates in a year.
 
IGRUA remains as epitome of standardization and excellence in flying training, with a potential to become the first air university of the country as stated at Why Join IGRUA.
 
IGRUA provides on-the-job training to candidates under­going AME diploma in various Indian private institutes.
 
Objective

The main objective of the Akademi is to improve the Flying Training standards in the Civil Aviation Industry and to impart Line Oriented Flying Training of International Standards, as per International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) norms. The students are honed thoroughly for easy transition to Airline industry. 

Infrastructure
The Akademi has very sound infrastructure available for flying training as follows:
  • Technical-Cum-Operational area and a domestic campus covering a total area of 167 acres.

  • Ground training unit with Air-Conditioned Classrooms equipped with  multimedia projector and sound system and Computer Based Training lab with interactive CD's and multimedia projector. 

  • A fleet of 28 Aircraft comprising 5 Trinidad TB-20, 5 Zlin, 2 King Air C-90A, 14 Diamond DA40 and Two DA42.

  • A King Air C-90A/B-200 Full Flight Simulator, with 6 DOF motion system & SP1T Visual.

  • Two most modern DA40 Simulators with phenomenal visuals to aid realistic training
  • One DA42 Simulator .
  • Two fixed base Cockpit Procedure Trainers for TB-20 Aircraft with Visual.

    Touch panel trainers, WOMBAT Pilot Aptitude Testing Device, CBT System.

  • Centrally air-conditioned class rooms.

  • A totally independent and dedicated Runway of 1722 m length.

  • Its own Air Traffic Control Tower, Fire Fighting & Rrefuelling facilities.

  • Modern Navigational Aids like VOR DME, ILS DME and NDB

  • Night Flying facilities

  • Operational activities efficiently scheduled/ monitored by TALON (Management Information System)

  • Dedicated Airspace for flying training.

  • Three fully closable Hangars equipped with up-to-date workshops. 

  • Separate boys and girls hostels.

  • Indoor sports complex having facilities for - Squash, Badminton, Sports Grounds and a Gymnasium.

  • Independent water supply system and electrical generators.
